Ramin Wood

RAMIN WOOD

As a decision of the C.I.T.E.S. (Convention International Trade in Endangered Species) Organisation in March this year, it is no longer allowed to import Ramin into any European Community country, any Ramin being bought before this date is still allowed to be imported and re-exported.  It isn't known at this time if this is to be a temporary or permanent decision.

Most European manufacturers are now introducing alternatives such as MEMPISANG (sometimes called Oriental Ramin) and KOTO wood.  All of our Ramin plainwoods are gradually being replaced by MEMPISANG and so far the results have been good.  If you are unsure of the suitability of this wood, please contact your local branch who will be happy to supply you with samples.
